• Trump nit to happy about Biden's win

    Joe Biden election victory

After days of waiting for key states to count their votes, a Joe Biden victory has been declared

Projections from the Associated Press, as well as the BBC and Fox News, give the 77-year-old Democratic nominee the victory, having won the key battleground of Pennsylvania, as well as the state of Nevada. Accepting the result, Biden writes: “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.”

Of course, the extent of the legal battle that now faces the Biden campaign remains to be seen, with Donald Trump announcing (see: throwing a tantrum) on Twitter: “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!”

Though it’s traditional for the losing candidate to concede, Trump has insisted on multiple occasions that he’ll contest the results. Already, he’s spread harmful misinformation about fraud that ignited the “stop the count” protests among his supporters.

For now, though, thousands are coming together to take part in impromptu pro-Biden (or at least anti-Trump) celebrations. While Kamala Harris – making history as the first Black woman to serve as vice president – has tweeted her enthusiasm to “get started”, social media has been flooded with videos of whole apartment blocks bursting into cheers and applause, and streets filled with vehicles blaring their horns.

Watch a sample of the celebrations from Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and more cities across the US, below (listen out for the “Fuck Trump”).
